Prices, Order information and Terms of Business

Special offer for returning clients:
If I receive a deposit by 31st July 2010 you will benefit from 2009 prices, even though your portrait will be drawn later in the year.

I keep my pricing simple by suggesting the size of picture suited to your subject
but please tell me exactly what you have in mind, as I can usually meet most needs

My pictures are supplied with a suitably coloured mount, which will fit a standard-size frame

Packing, and postage by Royal Mail Special Delivery in the UK (Guaranteed next working day, and signed-for) - £8
Additional insurance, courier service, or overseas delivery available at extra cost

In animal pictures I can include or exclude collars, harnesses, as you wish
I will discuss this with you as there is a £15 charge for fancy collars and all bridles, headcollars and harnesses

All portraits are drawn personally by me, freehand, starting from a blank sheet of paper. They are head, or head-and-shoulders studies without background.

Please Note:

The choice between coloured pencil and pastel is usually determined by the colours and textures of the subject
Graphite may not be the appropriate medium for some animal portraits
I cannot accept a commission if the reference photos show insufficient detail of the subject. In particular I can only draw colour portraits of people if the photos are exceptionally good.
The larger paper sizes may vary within an inch or 2.5cm of that shown. I select the most appropriate colour and texture for your picture from a wide variety of art papers that I source from all over the world, and they could be metric, Imperial or cut from larger sheets
The edges of the paper are covered by the mount so the visible paper is slightly smaller, and the image is centred within that
These are the sizes that I recommend for the subjects shown but I can usually draw a smaller or larger portrait at the price for the new paper size
There is no extra charge if you just want larger paper to show more border around the subject, or to fit a specific frame size
I am happy to discuss a quote for three or more subjects in one picture

How to Order
Contact me by phone or email with an outline of what you would like, and any deadline. Ideally I'd like to see the reference photos by email right at the start. I'll contact you within 72 hours to discuss your requirements, confirm the price, and schedule the work. Delivery is generally in about 5-6 weeks but if you have an earlier birthday or anniversary I can often rearrange my work to accommodate it.

SHORT OF TIME? SEND A VOUCHER
If you have a very close deadline I can send out a Gift Voucher for a specific amount of money, or for the entire cost of a portrait and delivery. Your recipient can then choose exactly what they want, at their leisure.

To confirm your order send me a non-refundable deposit of £40 for a single subject or £60 double subject.
I accept Paypal, cheque, bank transfer, or credit card.

When finished I will email a scan of your portrait for approval. Once you are completely satisfied, send me the balance of your payment and I will despatch your picture. If time is short you may, of course, pay the balance before completion so that I can despatch your portrait as soon as you have approved it.

Payment for multiple orders is due as each picture is completed.

Copyright
Photographs are copyright, and ownership usually belongs to the person who took the photo, or the person who paid for it to be taken. For each photo you send me you are granting me an indefinite licence to use it, copy it, and display it in any way - so it is important that you own the copyright or have permission to grant this licence.

Further, for each photo you send me you are agreeing to indemnify me against any costs arising from claims made against me by a person claiming to own the copyright.

Gift Vouchers
Cash-value vouchers can be bought for a specific sum to be used against the total price of a commission.
Picture-value vouchers are valid for a standard single-subject picture of the type shown and will include standard UK delivery. The recipient may add extras such as additional subjects, larger sizes, upgraded or non-UK delivery, bridles, collars, and backgrounds which are payable at the time.
Orders must be placed within twelve months and vouchers are not refundable

Other terms and conditions
If you do not wish to pay the balance for the finished portrait, you will forfeit the initial deposit and I will retain ownership of the drawing and its copyright will vest in me, along with the right to display or sell the original and/or images of it to third parties.

I may place an image of your purchased portrait in my various web galleries, and use it in my publicity, unless at the time of delivery you specifically request me not to do so. I will not resell any form of copy of the portrait you have purchased.

Your payment of the deposit constitutes your confirmation of your acceptance of the terms on this page
